Big Other press for Soda reading, WEDNESDAY

I’m on Big Other! Sort of. They did a post about the Soda reading series happening at Soda bar, on Vanderbilt in Brooklyn. But if Big Other is talking about it… you can expect a good event. 🙂

Soda bar is also close to my heart; it’s a place I went on the very first night I lived in Brooklyn, when I went out looking for people to talk to. I met Spike Lee’s brother and remember thinking, “this Brooklyn thing seems like it’s all gonna work out.” So far, so good. Please come. Details on Facebook, and here.

Next reading: Soda Series!! November 9.

I am thrilled and a little bit nervous to be reading at the next Soda series event, at Soda Bar in Brooklyn, on November 9. There will be a short reading by four writers (John Haskell, Kirsten Kaschock, Roberta Allen and me), followed by a conversation moderated by hosts Greg Gerke and John Dermot Woods. I’m currently reading John Haskell’s collection of stories, I Am Not Jackson Pollock, and it’s given me goosebumps more than once. Please try to catch this reading if you can!

New class sections for November at 3rd Ward!

Weee! The first class at 3rd Ward was so much fun, they’re bringing me back to teach it again. The Learn to Love Your Artist Statement class has been designed exclusively for visual artists who aren’t comfortable writing about their work–but find they need to do so anyway. Time to get this year’s applications ready for NYFA’s artist fellowships, right? (They’re due in December!) Register by November 2 to reserve space in the workshop, which takes place on two Tuesdays, November 8 and 15, 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
